Best junk mail title ever:

FW: How was your cereal this morning?

Was going to blog, but am tired. Maybe tomorrow!

All worthwhile

Last night I discovered something that makes the whole move worthwhile. I'm having trouble containing my exclaimation marks, as I really REALLY am that excited.

Spoiler space for if you want to take a guess...

My orchestra is going to be playing Saint-Seans' Symphony No. 3 at the Christmas concert.

I know very little about classical music - I know I've been in orchestras since I was 10, but I rarely remember the title of a piece or the composer or anything. But this piece has stuck with me since we played it on IYP '97 (International Youth Philharmonic - a collaberations of Bolton's, Le Mans' and Paderborn's Youth Orchestras, as they are Twin towns).

If I could have only 1 piece of music for the rest of my life, this would be it.

You should all come to watch this concert. FACT. I will tell you when I know when it is.

If you come to tea, a zombie you will see...

Most amazing thing I've found, EVER!!! Type cow print into Google and search for images. It's awesome. I'm not sure I've ever used that word before, but I feel it is needed just now, in the full of awe sense, not the American sense.

Saturday

Pirate Party

Stayed at Liz's in the living room, which rather surprised Clare when she found me and Andy in the morning. Had a sleepy conversation to discover that she's fine and dandy and still lovely. Went to Fat Club by quick ejection from Andrew car. Was ace to see Paula for a while and Liz and Jo and new Fat Club friends Sarah (who so isn't fat, but it's ok as she's lovely) and Georgie. Went to Starbucks for coffee, but this is ok as we needed to sit outside and got free water instead of coffee and that feels cheeky enough. Off I trundled to meet Maths Adam (how do I know so many Adams?!?). He was off to a picnic, so we wandered around Tesco to find him ingredients. I then went to get the train to Lostock, and Adam went to cut his finger off whilst preparing salad.

Got to Lostock to find a giant pile of earth, so I asked my dad if we had a mole and he looked confused. Apparently he's already moved 5 tons. Go him! Then me and Jennifer snuck off to Tesco, cause apparently she was supposed to have done it already. Got back to find cousins galore and Katherine and my mum hard at work in the kitchen. Thank you Katherine for all the cooking! Still want that potatoes recipe. Not of how to make potatoes, but of how to make them taste that nice. The afternoon was spent eating and chatting and catching up. From the second I arrived I had an attachment of Aillie, who wouldn't let me go! We read and drew and played tig and rolled on the floor. It was nice. Gary spent most of the time watching the golf, as you do. Sarah and Lucy were doing the Race for Life on Sunday. Go them! I wonder how they did...
They all helped me get ready for the Pirate Party, and Shona especially liked me slapping my face. This was because rubbing my beard smudged it, so I had to pat it around. My dad found me a waistcoat and a stick which we attacked Joel's flag to. I was quite impressed with my costume, as that morning all I had was shoes and earrings. Typical. The party was cool! I was a bit scared, as I thought I'd only know Liz, but I knew Carl (her husband) and Sarah (her sister) and Gemma (from MUGSS) and everyone else was lovely too. Drove back to Lostock to have a well earnt glass of wine and catch up with the parents/sisters without all the cousins. But kept getting told to shhh cause the golf was still on.

Sunday
Coffee
Pub
Train

Had a brief tidy up (cause I was lazy and stayed in bed till 10 reading) and got on a train with Katherine who was going back to Sheffield. Met Charlotte and Dan for iced coffee/juice and chatted rubbish. One question still remains: How have no scallies died in the heat? Surely some must have collapsed from heat stroke/sunburn/drunkeness. Maybe they just don't advertise it. They were then heading off to the Lowry - the last of their holiday week adventure plans, and I headed to Sinclairs, which I just love. Nice proper beer for less that £2 a pint. Brilliant! There were all sorts of people* there at various times and it was lovely! I did keep assuming everyone knew each other though. Silly me. I really enjoyed it. Not the being silly, the seeing people.
The train back was far less entertaining, but it did get me there. Got back to my house about 8 and couldn't be bothered going out to the pub again.

Monday
Comedy
Fire Club

We (me, Housemate Kat andhousematee Patrick) went to comedy for £1 and it was definitely worth it! Various people with various styles, but some people I'd definitely want to see again. And I found the bloke I've had a crush on since last festival. I accidentally wrote that I love him on the comment card and he read it out. It really was an accident - I filled in the details bit and then thought for a while what to write, forgetting that I'd just written down my full name and e-mail address. Moron. On the way back we stopped by fire club and talked to strangers. I like my housemates.

'Nuff said. Off sick. Got sunburnt.

Wednesday

Spent most of the day at work investigating doing a ECDL. I think it would be cool to have. I have no proof that I can do anything with a computer, except just saying I can, and I want to be able to prove it. After work I tidied. This was actually not that tricky and quite effective! Hurrah. Next I cycled to the park and caught up with Jess lady for a while and some random Polish bloke who said she was "a female goat somewhere over there". We think this isn't actually what he meant though, as he was speaking Polish and we were listening English. Then I went to a pub and foun Housemate Patrick (well, met him, not found him) and we had a pint and got talked to by a drunk man who has come for his dad's funeral and waiting till his daughter has her 2nd baby before he goes back to Spain. He's not crazy - she is very pregnant. We left cause I wanted to shout at him to stop drinking and g home to his daughter if that's who he's come to visit, and we went to a different pub. By the time we left I'd had 1 glass of red wine, 1 bottle of Leffe, 2 pints of 80' and a whiskey. We cycled back up the hill, and when we were on our road I decided I wanted to make Patrick fall off, so I bumped him, and fell off myself... Oops. I have a big giant bruise on my leg, most of the way down the front of my left leg, and a little one on the back of my right. Dumbo. Back to the flat and more drinking and chatting till about 2, I think.

Thursday
Now

Our lunch menu has a different random fact everyday. Today's is "FACT: If you took all the bag pipers in the world and laid them end to end -- it would be a good idea"! Ace. Usually they are slightly more informative, such as the bubbles iGuinnessss go down rather than up, and Tuesday's was "FACT: When ketchup was originally developed by the Chinese in 1690, it contained no tomatoes. It was made out of pickled fish, shellfish and spices."

So there you go. FACTs from work. I had vegetarian soya mince with potato and herb dumplings and roast potatoes. Mmmm... I am so full. But it's ok, cause the writing was in green so means it's vegetarian, and it had a little sun, which means it's a healthy option. Hurrah for the easy to use menu! And it was £2 for that and a big diet coke. The best thing about this job.

I've got a silly song about zombies stuck in my head. It's not Slugs Ate My Parents for a change, but a song my little sister used to sing and do a silly dance about. Ooh! Sister news: Jennifer's got into the course she wanted to. She's off to do Occupational Therapy (basket making) at Cardiff in January. She thought she hadn't got in and was going to go to Derby in September, but this is the course she wanted and she has longer to save up. Yay for Jennifer!

*Adam (degree), Nik (teaching), Sarah (Pete), Paula (Liz), Mahinda (Goonie), Paul (MUGSS), John (MUGSS), Rosy (Goonie), Nick (Adrian), Andy (CAOS). I might have missed someone. Oops.

Blogging via e-mail

I always knew I had a secret address that I could e-mail to and it would
appear as a post, but I also always forgot it. Today I found out, so
here's my first attempt.

E-mailing looks more like work than blogging.

After work I got the bus with Gavin, my colleague, and we went for a pint
before he was going to softball. I was a little tipsy after 1 pint, so got
tea whilst he had a second. Ended up a little late for orchestra, but it
was fun never the less. We had the randomest assortment of music, so it
was tricky to play. And I was tipsy. Oops. Afterwards went for a pint or
2 with Tim and, as always, was good to catch up with him. Patrick also
joined us, and then Patrick and I went to Doctors to play with Savoy.
Because I wasn't getting up early on Friday I played out a little too long
and hard and drank with strange boys. It was fun.

Train was pleasant. Was being nice and not sitting in my seat, as the
people around were using it for their luggage, but then had to. But was
quite glad of that, as I met Angus (9) and Emily (7) and their Gran (didn't
ask). We played Donkey and sudoku and ate fruit in bar format. I've got
a new favourite joke:
Why did the bike go to sleep?
Becuase it was too tyred!

They laughed at my previous favourite joke, so it has now been reinstated
in my memory:
What's funny about legs?
They've got a bottom at the top!

I've decided all jokes need to end in exclaimation marks. FACT. Arrived
in Mankychester and found Emma who bought me glitter! Then went to Varisty
and met Rebecca from old work. Am very glad to be in touch with her still,
as she's ace and lovely. There were also others from old work, including
Car Park Dan, who knows Debs seperately. Who would have guessed? He came
along for the curry with us, which proves what I'd always thought - he
should have been in my social circle earlier! Curry was at Pink Garlic and
the register was Charlotte, Dan, Liz, Andrew, Debs, Andy, Dan, Joel, Cass,
Me. It was Too Hot, but I think that could be said of everywhere. The
kitchen couldn't handle us, but we were kept topped up on water, and when
the food came it was ace! I dare say the best curry I've eaten on the
mile. You should all go. But note that it's an alcohol free place, so you
should know that first and not moan.

We then trundled along to Hardy's where I was pleased to see Wolf and Clive
and find Simon, Paul, Miranda and Steve. We sat outside and say on the
grass (with Joel) and went in the phone box (with Mahinda) and sat on the
grumpy table (with Jimby) chatted to everyone, I think.

Will have to update these days later, as I want to go home now. I've taken
to not cycling to work this week (but may on Friday) as hands hurt, and I
like the time that being on he bus gives me to read. But should really
start back on the exercise, so might go to a bike shop this weekend and see
if they can help me cycle better...

Wednesday
Now

OK, so I had to come in and remove the long blurb at the bottom of my e-mails! And it removed the editing (bold/spaces). Pah.

Ug.

I had about 5 hours sleep and now am feeling a little hungover. But enjoying it! Apart from a skanky throat and cold type thing, I must be running on rexerve energy cause I'm still going.

My computer's broke though, as I can't log into the HR database or report programme. Oops.

I like wine.

Pink is good.

I've drunk a whole bottle on my own in my room.

It's ace

£2.92 well spent.

I love everything!

Sorry to be so smug pucblically, but I really haven't actually been this happy in ages. Not necessarily in the whole drunken happines, although that is excellent. I'm meaning the whole Edinburgh happiness. There are many things that are worse in my life up here - the most obvious being I have less friends on tap and less money (from the move), but I am really a lot happier.

So there.

All the grumps I've had are gone.

All the insecurites I've had are gone.

(Or more likely, buried, but that'll do for now.)

Hurrah!

Here it is...

So, I found it! I'd been writing in a mailbox that isn't mine. Oops. But hopefully no-one else noticed!

Phew.

Thursday - Orchestra and random meetings
Orchestra was fun! Exactly the type of orchestra that I need and was beginning to lose hope that it existed. It said it started at 7.30, so I got there about 7.25 (after a shandy and tea in the pub!). Most people rolled up between 7.30 and 8. Rehearsal is till 9, and it will never overrun due to a girl (Lizzie?) who asks many times if it's time to finish yet. This is good to know.
It turns out that they had a concert in May, and stop for August for the festival, so July is a bit experimental. There's fewer people as people go on holiday, and there's not a concert to rehearse for as the next one's at Christmas and work would have to be started again 'proper' in September after the break, so they try out new pieces, and members get to try conducting and the like.
Everyone seems really friendly and goes to the pub. I went for a couple, but didn't want to stay long as I was off to Doctors to meet the Savoy crowd. I was persuaded to have 2 shandys, not the 1 I was planning, on offer of a lift* over to the other pub. I don't really know why I was drinking shandy, but there you go. I was thirsty and not supposed to be drinking all week. Off I went to Doctors with Rodney. He likes going to new places. As well as the people I went to say hi to, I also had a few surprises. Richard and Katharine were there, as was Wee Andy. Had a brief catch up with them all and a glance at Katharine's ring. Scary! No doubt I'll be bumping into them more often now, it coming up to the festival season, so that will be good.

Friday - Can't remember!

Saturday- Sleep/Out
I woke up at 8 and decided that was too early, so went back to sleep. Woke up at 3.45. Oops! There goes Saturday. Spent the evening with Housemate Patrick, where we failed to get in many places for free. We got in 1, using out technique of drawing the stamps on our hands, but failed at 2 other places. Oh well. Was a nice evening anyway, and found people we knew when wandering around. Patrick may have been a little drunk, as he'd been drinking whiskey at home, so I blame that on the failing thing, as I decided he was designated artist.

Sunday - Sunbathing, Reading & Pub
Best weather ever! But I couldn't be bothered doing anything like walking up hills, as I keep meaning to do. Thinking about it, it was probably too hot anyway. I spent the day in the garden reading. I got a little sunburnt, but only in random places, as I must have missed with the cream. Finished Danny Wallace's Yesman and started another Christopher Brookmyre. In the evening I went to the pub to meet the Savoy people. Last week there were there about 7, so I went about 8.30, sat till about 9, then went home again to get my phone. They were there about 10! So I went back. I cycled there and back twice and it was actually quite easy and quick. Yay for the bike and new confidence in cycling!

Monday - Gran outing
I spent most of the day on VERY HOT public transport - up at 6.30 for train to Carnoustie, where the air conditioning had broken in my carriage. I thought it was just hot, until the announcement, then I moved seats. Spent a couple of hours at Gran's house, before going to find the bus. VERY HOT bus to St. Andrews via Monifeith, where we picked up another group of people. So, now I'm on a bus (with my knees squashed) with 40 or so old people, half of them blind**. It was an ace trip! I must have been the youngest by 30 years, except the leaders, who are probably in their 40s. We arrive at St. Andrews at 2 and have to be back on the bus at 4. So what did we do? Shopped! Gran wanted new shoes, so we went and got her some trainers and some shoes. Then we pottered around charity shops and drank coffee. Back on the VERY HOT bus to go to a lovely pub for tea, then back on the VERY HOT bus to Carnoustie. I dashed off straight away (well, was chucked out too!) to have a quick paddle in the sea before my train back. Trains are annoyingly infrequent after about 4, so I had to wait for 40 mins in Dundee. Back in Edinburgh at 10 to 10, home about half past. Sleep!

Tuesday - Work
I stayed late at work, writing most of this. Shhh. Trying to build up my hours, cause I need to before having Friday off. I really wanted to go home early, but stayed longer doing nothing. It didn't seem that cheeky as I had nothing to do pretty much all day. I'm getting quite good at stalling, so I can spend all day doing very little now. I don't like it, cause when I do have something to do, I'd much rather be blogging or e-mailing or something. Oh well.
Ooh, went to get weighed at my own (cheaper) version of Fat Club. I've lost half a stone in 3 weeks! Hurrah. I've got 7 to lost the other half. Sounds easy with that rate of progress, but just need not to be naughty and reverse it.
Spent the evening working on an application for a different job. It would be ace if I get it, but we shall see. Patrick tidied and cleaned the kitchen, which was very much appreciated! I was probably going to do it again tonight, but none of it was my mess.

Wednesday - Work
Had a little more to do today, so that's good! Someone's going to come and do a workstation assessment on me soon, too. Maybe I'll get something to stop my tendonitis getting worse...

Plans
Tonight tidying/packing. Tomorrow night orchestra and drinking. Weekend Manchester! I'm excited to be coming back, but also a little worried that I'll feel weird. We shall see...

So there you go. I blogged. Eventually.

*I got a lift from Jill Andrews, a lawyer. On the way to the car we were also chatting to Jill Andrews, a lawyer. This turns out to be quite useful that they know each other, when they get e-mails from each other's clients by mistake!
**It was a trip run by the blind society, and everyone needed a pal to come with them. If I hadn't gone up, Gran wouldn't have been allowed out to play. Gran's partially sighted, but I still can't decide how much! She didn't want white shoes as they'd show the dirt. I said she can't see it anyway, but this seemed to be The Wrong Thing to say...

Again!!

I'm convinced I wrote a blog yesterday. I know I didn't post it - I e-mailed it from work to home so I could finish it later. But when I got home I couldn't make the net work. And now I'm at work, it's not in my sent items, or drafts folder, or anything! GRRR!!

I'm obviously not supposed to blog.

STUPID MACHINE!

I just wrote an ace blog* about orchestra last night, and internet explorer crashed and took it with it.

GRUMP!

I might try again later.

*Aceness not guaranteed.

Deodorant

My new deodorant smells odd.

It's by King of Shaves, and is supposed to stop hair growing as fast. I didn't go out looking for it - I was just looking for regular deodorant. I hate deodorant shopping. I had a favourite one (Source tea tree and mint), but they stopped making it. Grump. So I bought this one. It actually make the hairs grow slower, I'm convinced! But that's probably why it smells a little like sick. Not generally noticeable, but I get a whiff occasionally and it puts me off.

So there you go! I smell of sick. Nice. I'm going to be popular at the pub tonight, and create a great first impression at orchestra...

Obsession

I've taken to reading my horoscope in the Metro every day. Today mine says:

"‘Only love can break your heart’ sang Neil Young. Only love can make you behave in ways you never would otherwise – obsessive, compulsive, naughty as hell. I’m not saying love’s about to break your heart. It is about to bring on the other stuff. "

That sounds fun. I want to run around and be naughty and obsessive.

Healthy Pigmy Hippo

I'm having a bit of a down time at the moment, but (if this makes ANY sense) quite enjoying it. I know that I'm where I want, doing what I want. I may not have the people that I love around me all the time, but they still love me. Think I'm just miserable because I'm tired and often feel a bit ill the day after I cycle.

Today I'm tired because I had weird dreams all night and didn't want to go back to sleep again. Any dream experts out there? In my dream my mum and dad (although they didn't look like my mum and dad) had 7 small children (like under 10), and my dad was bed ridden after a nasty accident, then my mum but all the small children in the people carrier with her and drove into a garage that was on fire and exploded. So me and Katherine had to look after daddy, although we were quite upset, then a teacher from primary school (Mrs Parker) came and told us off and told us that we had to stop being upset and look after the young ones, cause she'd been looking after the 7 children (who were, presumably, dead, so it makes no sense). Anyway, it was odd and scary and I didn't like it. As if I didn't have enough trouble sleeping anyway, I'm really not going to want to tonight!

Am also very fed up with work. It's boring! There isn't much for me to do. But I'm going to make the most of it, and learn lots, and use it to get another job. Shhh.
Ok, so a run down of events...

Thursday: Went to my friend Tim's gig, although didn't actually see him play. He said he'd be on at 9, but I got there about half past, due to being in the bath for a couple of hours after work. He wasn't even there! Had a pint on my own, then he turned up and sound checked. We had a chat for a bit, which was ace actually, cause I've seen him quite a few times without speaking to him much. Then I left before he played and went to Doctors to find Kelly, and found American Emily! She talked about boys, and we all told stupid jokes. I was quite drunk. Oops.

Friday: Got up about 6.30, just cause I was awake. Strange. Felt like poop, but figured more lying around wasn't going to help, so I was early to work. This all helped with my flexi time balance, as I took at extra long lunch to see Mark, Ads and Dan. Their train journey up north had an hour and a half wait in Edinburgh, so I went and sat in the park with them for a bit. They were picking on Mark for bringing far more stuff than the others, but I swear Adam's bike was heavier! The evening was spent doing washing, tidying and mooching around with a book.

Saturday: Cleaning and tidying of the flat. I was annoyed with a housemate throughout most of it, as I'm sure he's the only one to make mess. I may yet be proven otherwise, but we shall see. Then Del arrived and I went to meet him at the station. We nipped back to the flat to dump the bag, then went out for drinks, curry, more drinks and music. We made friends with a lovely couple, whom I plan to see again.

Sunday: After little sleep (I really am rubbish at it!), we went for breakfast at the cafe across the road, then Adam joined us for lunch at The Stand, which is a comedy club. Sunday lunchtime is an improvised slot, that's free. Then Del got on his train, Adam went to see his parents, and I went to the park. This may be the regular plan for Sundays when I have visitors. I then grabbed some chips and went to the pub to meet Kelly and Savoy.

Monday: I couldn't get weighed, because I accidentally took my Ceroc membership card to work, not my Boots weigh machine card. Oops. So don't know how the bet progress is going. Cycling revelations were that it was considerably easier than it has been, and wind really makes a difference! I kept nearly being blown away. I phoned Charlotte and had a bit of a gossip catch up. I miss her. Then Housemate Kat came with me to the pub to meet Graham and Holly and Emma (all with CAOS connections). On the way back we stopped by fire club, and almost looked like weirdos, as we didn't recognise anyone! But someone did know Kat, so all was rescued. When we got home, Patrick was back (Yay!) and Alex was tidying (also Yay!), and we all mooched around for a while. Alex is going away for a week, so we can find out who really does make the mess! And Patrick's brought back some throws from home, so the living room is going to look ace very soon. Hurrah! I just hope it stays that way...

Tuesday: I have a cold. I swear it's connected to the cycling thing. Grump.

The future: Thursday I'm going to join an orchestra.

I've just realised all my blogs have started to have the same format. Waffle, day by day account, plans. Oh well!
